AHS is responsible for delivering healthcare services across the province.


Key Healthcare Providers:

Alberta Health Services is the primary healthcare provider in the province, delivering services through various zones and regions. The province people also have an opportunity to have private healthcare providers offering complimentary services. B.C. has several provincial health authorities, including Vancouver Coastal Health, Fraser Health, Island Health, Interior Health, and Northern Health, each responsible for delivering healthcare services to their people divided into specific regions.


Healthcare Services:

B.C. offers plenty of options for healthcare services, including primary care, hospital care, mental health services, long-term care, and home care. The province also emphasizes preventive care and health promotion initiatives. Alberta provides the benefits of comprehensive healthcare services, including primary care, hospital care, specialized care, mental health services, addiction treatment, and long-term care. The province also invests in health promotion and disease prevention initiatives.


Healthcare Challenges and Opportunities

Some essential challenges faced by both province healthcare systems such as ageing population, rising healthcare costs, healthcare worker shortages in certain areas, addressing health disparities among different populations, healthcare access and wait times, mental health and addiction, healthcare workforce Shortages, Healthcare Funding and Sustainability, increasing demand for services due to population growth, wait times for specific procedures, access to healthcare in rural and remote areas, and managing healthcare costs despite those challenges there are some opportunities to grow like Telemedicine and Virtual Care, Mental Health and Wellness Services, Primary Care Enhancement, Seniors' Care and Aging Population, Health Equity and Cultural Safety, Health Promotion and Prevention, and Innovation and Research.
